Avonbrook Stud - Young Stock

Avonbrook Green Rose (Rosie) has been retained as an all-round horse for my elder daughter to grow into.  I am to be permitted to breed one foal from her first!

She was lightly backed in 2009 and found it all very easy. Having unfortunately thrown a large splint in the field at the beginning of 2010, she was brought back into work successfully. In 2011, Rosie has continued her ridden education both on the flat and over jumps. Her breeding career has been put on hold for the time being.

Avonbrook Silver Eagle (Robbie) measures around 16.1hh as a 4 year old.  He is every bit as laid back as his sire and every bit as fast over the ground as his dam!  He was backed and ridden away in 2009 and proved to be very trainable. He came away with us on holiday and had a day trip to a cross country course to watch the kids and ponies school round and to work on the lunge in another new place. He showed such aptitude and enthusiasm for jumping that he ended up jumping quite a few of the larger options! He was then turned away turned until 2010 to stop me from doing too much too soon with such a talented young horse.

Since his return to work in the summer, Robbie has readily done everything asked of him including a prelim dressage test, hacking out on our holidays and cantering up the beach, taking me over my first little jumps in 14 years and competing under saddle and in hand at the Welsh Crabbet show in September. Here he took the Reserve Champion Ridden Anglo/Part Bred/Hispano Arab title with me and the Champion In Hand Anglo/Part Bred/Hispano Arab title with my younger daughter contributing to his sire winning the Leading Sire of the Show award.

Robbie started 2011 by appearing with his sire at the Stallion Showcase GB in February. In March he degloved his left fore pastern in a gate and has returned to work in September 2011 after a 6 month recuperation. We intend to keep him ticking over gently through the winter with unaffiliated showjumping and dressage.

Avonbrook Odin (Odin!) is now around 16hh and has the substance and elevation of his British Warmblood dam with the presence of his sire.  He has shown considerable jumping ability (out of fields!) and is being retained as a future pony-club eventer for my younger daughter to grow into.  He was the third of the youngsters to be brought in for starting in 2009. He was again the last to be brought back into work in 2010 and has very quickly returned to working nicely under saddle.

Odin has begun to come into his own in 2011 and is demonstrating a genuine approach to ridden work on the flat and over fences - and a naturally good jumping technique. In September 2011 he accompanied his sire to the Welsh Crabbet Show and singlehandedly brought the Living Sire of the Show award back home with his 12 year old owner/handler/rider.

Avonbrook Silver Augury (Prince) has continued to build on his early success as a foal when he won the partbred/anglo arab championship and the supreme champion light horse title at the British National Foal of the Year Show in November 2008. In 2009, he gained premiums in the eventing and endurance sections of the BEF Futurity tests being the high point endurance yearling at his venue and attracting very favourable comments from the examining veterinary surgeon. He was also placed both times he was shown in 2009, including at the Arab Horse Society National Summer Show. He has continued to impress in the show ring taking the Reserve Champion In Hand Anglo/Part Bred/Hispano Arab title and also winning the Young Sport Horse class with my elder daughter at the Welsh Crabbet Show on his only trip off the farm in 2010. He was lightly backed as a 3 year old in 2011 and was turned away, to grow some more.

He did, however, make a brief appearance in hand in the Premium Scheme Parade with his sire at the Arab Horse Society Summer Show where he behaved beautifully and enjoyed himself enormously.

Avonbrook Mars Sylvanus (George) is another lovely, athletic, beautifully tempered product of this successful pairing. Standing nearly 16hh as a 2 year old, he will soon be leaving to join his new owner. Until then, he continues to be well socialised within the herd.

Born on 15 June 2010, Annia Aurelia (Penny) is the first pure-bred filly by Marcus Aurelius. Over 90% Crabbet lines, she is friendly, confident, independent and pure quality. She was weaned in Spring 2011 and has been left this year to grow up in the herd. She will be retained by the stud.
